Hypnosis in Wakefield

Hypnosis (or 'hypnotherapy') is a wonderfully versatile therapy. It can help you to find positive solutions to anxiety, stress, panic, phobia, trauma, weight problems, smoking, sleep problems, obsessions and much more (see list of issues it can help with here). In fact, if you have any problem that has a psychological aspect to it, including medical conditions such as pain, hypnosis can help.

Our unconscious minds are a place of habit, both good and bad. A useful analogy is to think of someone learning to drive a car. They have to consciously think about the steering, brakes, indicators, lights, wipers, etc. This is overwhelming at first but eventually the behaviours sediment in the unconscious mind until the person drives without hardly thinking about it in the conscious mind.

Good habits, like changing up gears when necessary, become automated but unfortunately so do any bad habits such as not checking mirrors. Hypnosis taps into and utilises your good unconscious resources as well as changing the bad habits of thought and behaviour at a deep unconscious level which is beyond the reach of most talking therapies.

The suggestions I provide will be designed from our discussions and are effectively your own suggestions fed back to you while you are in a receptive, suggestible state of mind. However, you will only take on board suggestions that you find useful and you always remain in control.

Hypnotherapy is a relaxing and pleasant experience. You have experienced natural trances in day-to-day life, such as becoming engrossed in a book, film or TV, or daydreaming. These are involuntary trances. The hypnotherapist deliberately induces this daydream-like state of mind.

Hypnotherapy is safe and has no known side effects. The induction of a trance through hypnosis is relaxing and comfortable, and you take yourself into a trance at your own rate and with the guidance of the hypnotherapist. You always remain in control, just as you would in any natural trance - you hear what is being said, can talk at any time and you don't fall asleep!

Hypnosis can be used for tackling unhelpful behaviours (e.g. smoking or compulsions), emotions (e.g. jealousy and grief), thoughts (e.g. 'I can't cope'), fears (e.g. aeroplanes), and memories (childhood or more recent).

The number of sessions required varies according to the many factors, such as the severity and complexity of your presenting issue, whether it is a single issue or multiple issues, your motivation and willingness to try out new ways of doing things, and so on. However, hypnotherapy is a brief therapy and only a small number of sessions are normally required. Typically, 4-6 hypnosis sessions are required. Some people find success after just 2, while others, especially those with more complex issues, require 8 or more.

All age groups are welcome, including children and adolescents.

My hypnotherapy practice is situated in Calder Grove, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. If you would like to discuss how hypnosis could benefit you please call:
